Open and edit Excel files offline in your browser with XLSX Studio
Sometimes you just need to look inside a spreadsheet, fix a few numbers and send it back — without installing Office or uploading a private file to a website. XLSX Studio does that entirely in your browser.
Opening a workbook
Drop an .xlsx, .xls, .ods, .csv or .tsv file onto the page. The file is read with the browser's File API and parsed locally, so it never leaves your device. Every sheet appears as a tab at the bottom of the grid. No file handy? Start from the budget, roadmap or team roster templates.
Editing like a spreadsheet
- Click a cell to select it, then just start typing. Enter moves down, Tab moves right, Delete clears.
- The formula bar shows the raw value or formula of the selected cell, such as
=SUM(B2:B6). - Insert or delete rows and columns, and sort by the selected column with the header row kept in place.
- Make cells bold or italic, change text and fill colors, alignment, and number formats (currency, percent, date).
- Undo/redo remembers your last 50 changes.
Formulas that recalculate live
Formulas start with = and update as soon as any referenced cell changes. Supported functions include SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, MIN, MAX, ROUND, ABS, IF, AND, OR, CONCAT, UPPER, LOWER, TRIM and LEN, plus conditional and lookup functions: SUMIF, COUNTIF, AVERAGEIF, IFERROR, ISBLANK, ISNUMBER, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH. For example =XLOOKUP("Pro",A2:A10,C2:C10,"Not found") returns a price by name.
Mistakes are shown clearly instead of silently: #DIV/0! for division by zero, #NAME? for an unknown function, #N/A for a lookup with no match, and #CYCLE! when a cell refers back to itself.
Ranges, fill and clipboard
- Drag or Shift+click to select a range; Bold, colors, alignment and Clear apply to every selected cell.
- Fill down / right with Ctrl+D / Ctrl+R or the fill handle.
=B2*C2becomes=B3*C3on the next row, while$-locked references such as$F$1stay fixed — one formula for the whole column. - Copy and paste with Excel or Google Sheets: ranges travel as tab-separated text in both directions.
- The status bar shows live Sum, Average, Count, Min and Max of the selection.
Find, freeze and resize
Ctrl+F opens Find & Replace with match-case and whole-cell options. Drag column borders to resize, and freeze the top row or first column so headers stay visible while scrolling.
Checking your data
The statistics panel summarises the selected column: filled and empty cells, sum, average, min and max. Repeated values in that column are highlighted, which is handy for spotting duplicate emails or IDs. The search box filters rows to those containing your text.
Filters, highlight rules and borders
Select a column and open Filter to show only rows that contain a word, equal a value, are greater or less than a number, or are blank. Filters on several columns combine, and they only hide rows — nothing in your data changes. Rules add conditional formatting to the selected range: highlight values above a target in green, overdue amounts in red, duplicates or blank cells, and the colors update live as numbers change. The Borders menu adds a box around a table, lines under a header, or a full grid.
More formulas, with suggestions
Type = and start a function name — the formula bar suggests matching functions with their arguments, and Tab or Enter inserts one. Beyond lookups and conditional totals, you can use text functions (=LEFT(A2,3), =SUBSTITUTE(B2,"-","")), statistics (=MEDIAN(C2:C50), =STDEV(C2:C50)), dates (=YEAR(D2), =DATE(2026,1,1), =TODAY()), and multi-condition picks like =MAXIFS(E2:E99,A2:A99,"East") or =IFS(F2>90,"A",F2>75,"B",TRUE,"C").
Charts
Select a label column and number columns, then build a bar, line or pie chart. Download it as SVG for documents or PNG for slides.
Saving your work
- XLSX keeps every sheet, the formulas and the number formats, so Excel or Google Sheets can keep recalculating.
- PDF exports the active sheet with your choice of page size, orientation and gridlines — useful for invoices and reports.
- CSV / TSV export the calculated values of the active sheet. "Copy for Excel" puts tab-separated data on your clipboard.
- JSON uses the first row as keys — perfect for seeding an API or test fixture.
- Markdown produces a table ready for a README or documentation page.
Limits worth knowing
Pivot tables and macros are not supported, and cell colors and column widths are not written into the saved .xlsx file. For plain CSV cleanup, the CSV Viewer & Editor is even lighter.
