Is my text sent to a server?

No, speech synthesis runs entirely locally through your browser's built-in engine.

What if my browser doesn't support speech synthesis?

You'll see a message explaining that the feature isn't available, with a suggestion to try a modern browser.

Can I download the audio?

Yes, use the Download audio panel to render the text with a studio voice and save it as MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC or FLAC.

Why does the download voice differ from playback?

Browsers cannot record their own speech engine, so downloads are rendered separately in a high-quality voice you choose.

About the Text to Speech / Voice

Type or paste text and have it read aloud using the browser's built-in Web Speech API, with a picker for installed voices and sliders for rate, pitch, and volume, plus play, pause, and stop controls. You can also render the same text with a studio voice and download it as an audio file.
